About Me
Welcome! My name is Andrew Hogan. I am currently a senior at Michigan State University studying packaging with a minor in food science and technology. I am currently dividing my time between being a full time student and working part time at Packaging Corporation of America in Grandville, Michigan. Upon my graduation in May, I am looking to begin my career as a packaging design engineer. I recently completed a 9 month internship at PCA, one of the largest corrugated suppliers in the United States. This experience has not only taught me a lot about the corrugated industry, but it has also exposed me to many different areas of packaging. My personal website was created so that I can keep it updated with projects and designs that I am working on in school or in the industry. A link to my resume is below. Feel free to contact me any time.

Work Experience
Packaging Corporation of America:
Packaging Design Intern
Jan 2017 - Current PCA is one of the largest corrugated suppliers in the United States. I completed a 9 month internship at PCA as a packaging student at Michigan State University. I am now working at PCA part time while finishing my last semester at Michigan State. During my time at PCA, I was responsible for developing and prototyping new projects from the initial request through to the production of the first order. I was known for my quick turn around time which helped the sales reps to stay ahead of the competition. In one instance, I worked closely with a sales rep to develop a packaging system for a client that the sales rep had been trying to acquire for over five years. With my solution, which was superior to the competition, PCA is now the sole supplier to this company. Using my knowledge of 2D and 3D CAD, I was asked to create various different signs and models that would be presented to clients when they came for a plant tour. This helped to increase client retention and overall satisfaction. Some of my designs can be viewed below.

Michigan State University:
Undergraduate Research
Sep 2017 - Dec 2017 The research that I completed looked at the different films and polymers that were used in modified atmosphere packages. In order to understand what polymers were chosen for each product I had to use a differential scanning calorimeter (DSC) to test for each polymer. The DSC output a plot, seen below, that shows the relationship between heat flow and temperature. This data can then be compared against known melting points of polymers to determine the materials that were used to make up the package.

Wonder Jump Inc:
Team Leader
Jun 2013 - Jan 2017 |
Wonder Jump is a party rental company that specializes in inflatables, concessions and tents for parties and events. I started working there as a general laborer. I quickly worked my way up in the company by earning the respect from the owner and working closely with him to develop strategies on how to best grow the company for the future. I was placed in charge of running events and festivals. I became a valuable asset and I still occasionally help out for large events.
